Under 13s fail to make EC cup finals
The under 13s were in action in the qualifiers for the Eastern Counties Cups with their first match against Norwich. Ely could have been in a commanding lead but for the lack of passing in front of goal and an excellent display by the Norwich keeper. Ely did eventually take the lead but this wasn’t ever enough with the match drawn 1 -1 .
The next game against Cottenham started poorly with a couple of goals. However, when Ely found their game they competed well. The score could have been better then the eventual 7 – 3 loss (scorers Ryan Norton, Paul Masterton and Emily Barrow).
In match 3 against league champions Bury, Ely defended well early on and created several chances with some good passing. Eventually however Bury broke the defence and scored. A well taken reply from Nathan Ellis was the only reply as Ely lost 7 -1.
The final game was much the same with some good patches of play where the team started to ‘string’ some good passes which produced an excellent goal from Masterton from a Norton pass. The other goals came from Vicky Moffatt and Jake Kendall in the 8 - 4 loss.
