Under 15s greens at Cambridge

In a busy period of Roller Hockey it was the Ely under 15s 1st Division side that ‘kicked’ off the weekend at Cambridge Regional College. The team had had some good results at the previous tournament so were hopeful of some good performances.

However in match 1 against Cottenham they found an opposition goalkeeper in great form. Ely passed the ball around well against a team they beat last time. Ely created plenty of chances but couldn’t find the back of the net. Meanwhile Cottenham found gaps in the Ely defence to score 5 goals for a 5 – 0 win.

Match 2 was against Bury St Edmunds. The first half was close but Bury went in a half time 3 – 2 up. Hannah Barrow scored a well taken goal early in the second half and Ely started to look the better team. However whilst pushing for a winner, Ely got caught on the break twice to lose 5 – 3. Other scorer Max Dunand 2.

The final match was against league leaders Kings Lynn. Ely held the opposition for the first few minutes despite having 4 girls on the rink playing an older and stronger all boys team. However 4 quick goals gave Kings Lynn a comfortable lead. As the match progressed Ely had some good phases of play and several shots but couldn’t find a deserved goal. Final score 9 – 0.
