Fantastic defence but no wins for blues under 13s
The Ely Blues under 13s played in their second tournament in the Easter Counties 1st Division still looking for their first win of the season.
Match 1 against Kings Lynn could have gone either way with Ely defending fantastically restricting the opposition to only limited chances. A goal by Heather Dunand was not enough however with the team losing 2 – 1.
The next match against Cottenham started in a similar fashion with Nikki Hart scoring early in a tight first half. However in the second half Ely lost their shape and started to chase the ball gifting the opposition several easy chances. When Ely had the chance to attack the lack of passing moves limited them to long range shots. The result ended 7 – 1.
Match 3 against a strong Herne Bay United team got off to a dream start with Kirsty Moffat finding the net after only 15 seconds of play. The team were then subjected to constant attacking moves by the opposition who passed the ball superbly. Ely’s marking was again excellent and whilst the score ended 7 - 1 this was a creditable result.
The final match against Norwich was typical of the day with defending 1st class. Passing was improved with both Emily Barrow and Ryan Norton linking up well to create a couple of good chances but it was Norwich who found the net for a rare 1 – 0 scoreline.
The team remain at the bottom of the table with one of the better defensive records, but a lack of goals being the main problem.
