UNDER 11S REMAIN TOP OF THE LEAGUE
Ely under 11s went into tournament 2 at Soham as league leaders with a 100% record from the first tournament.
Their first game was against newcomers to the league Chesterton who having only set up recently have their first league teams this season. Ely’s experienced pair of Ryan Norton, Heather Dunand proved too much of a handful and Ely ended comfortable winners.
In match two Ely faced Letchworth a club who although well established and formally one of the largest clubs in the UK are in the process of building up numbers with a whole new team at this level. As with match 1 it was Norton and Dunand who did the damage scoring all the goals in an 8 – 0 victory.
The next game was vs. Kings Lynn B. This time Ely put the younger players into attack with newcomer Archie Salmon scoring his first 2 goals of the season in another comfortable win.
The final match proved to be the most challenging of the day against Cambridge. With strong attacking play from Dunand and Norton, Ely surged to a 3:1 lead. A strong Cambridge side however pressed forward again and again, but great goal keeping from Williams and stout defending from Elliot Gordon and Ryan Jackson enabled Ely to maintain their lead throughout the match. Unfortunately in the last few seconds with the scores at 4 - 3 Cambridge scored, leaving the final result 4 - 4.
With two of their five tournaments complete Ely sit top of the table after seven wins and one draw with Cambridge in second.
