GREAT DAY FOR THE UNDER 17 S
Great Day for under 17s
Ely attended tournament 3 of the under 17s league with a record of 2 wins from 7 played so far this season so they were hoping for some good performances to push them up the table.
The first match produced just that against Peterborough who are always difficult to play at this level. The first half was tight but Ely created plenty of chances early on which eventually brought an opening goal. However this was the only goal of the half. In the second half Ely upped the tempo and were rewarded with two further goals to give a comfortable 3 – 0 lead. Peterborough responded well but good defending restricted the chances and James Bayes in goal dealt with any shots that were on target. Peterborough eventually managed a goal which looked like all they were going to get until a dying seconds penalty left the scores at 3 - 2 (scorers Michael Hart, Dan Salisbury and Simon Thompson), a rare win against this opposition.
In the next match against the Bury ladies Ely were rarely threatened but a well organised Bury defence meant Ely had to work hard for a 6 – 0 victory.
In the last match against Norwich Ely passed the ball well and soon created several chances but they struggled to find the net early on. However once in their stride the goals started to come, several resulting from some good passing out of defence and quick reaction from Dan Salisbury and Michael Hart who both scored hat-tricks. These together with a first time goal at this level from Jake Haynes gave Ely a 7 -1 victory.
