PERFECT START FOR UNDER 11s

PERFECT START FOR UNDER 11s

Ely under 11s team played their first tournament at Burwell. The club only has 5 players who can play at this level so there were no substitutes and 2 players were playing their first ever competitive match. Therefore with a first game against Kings Lynn ‘A’, expectations were not high, however an all round good performance and 4 goals from Ryan Norton gave Ely a morale boosting 4 - 2 win.

Into the second match against Cambridge the good form continued and Ely were 4 -1 up at half time. In the second half Ely didn’t find the net but some excellent defending from newcomer Archie Salmon restricted the opposition to only 2 more goals with Ely hanging on for a 4 -3 victory.

In the next match against Cottenham it was the turn of goalkeeper Molly Williams to shine with some excellent saves. This together with some fine passing between Ryan and Heather Dunnand and well taken goals gave Ely an 8 -6 win.

With the team in a positive mood going into the last match against the Kings Lynn ‘B’ team nothing could stop Ely who ran out 6 -3 victors including a first time goal for Elliot Gordon.

Meanwhile the under 17s team played in their second tournament.  Ely were not too disappointed with a 5 – 1 loss to Peterborough in the first match. They soon turned things around when they comprehensively beat Norwich 11 – 0 in the second match. However the final match was against run away leaders Bury who having beaten everyone else earlier in the day dispatched Ely 19 – 1.
