Under 15s Greens get their first victory.
Ely under 15s Greens played in their second tournament of the year at Soham in division 1. Teamwork on the day was much improved from the first tournament but the team were always going to find it tough against bigger and older opposition.
However Ely started brightly in the first match against Peterborough and at times passed the ball very well and created as many goal opportunities as the opposition in the early exchanges. However it was Peterborough who found the net winning 8 – 1 .
In the second match against Bury Ely took an early lead but some slack defence late in the first half gifted Bury 2 goals. However Ely fought back and totally dominated the second half to win 5 – 2.
In the next match against Cottenham the team had one older player missing injured, following a mishap in the warm up. Ely however started brightly, equalising an early opposition goal, but as the match progressed Cottenham started to dominate eventually winning 10 – 2. With the players tiring and down to only one sub, the final match against league leaders Kings Lynn ended in a 11 – 1 defeat.
Goalscorers on the day were 3 each for Max Dunnand, Simon Thompson and Callum Thoday.
In the second division the Ely Greens played at Burwell. The team most of which who are playing under 15s for the first time this season played well in some closely fought matches.
In the first two matches against Cottenham and Letchworth respectively Ely scored three goals in each but this was not enough going down 5 -3 and 6 -3 both score lines and the general play giving hope for better results later in the season.
The third match against Bury was deemed to be a friendly and an automatic win for Ely. However the team still battled hard on the rink. Despite the most senior team player having to come off following a bad injury to the face the score ended 2 – 2.
In the final match Kings Lynn who are having a good start at all age groups won easily 10 – 2.
